Katie O Art - Handmade Gifts, Decorations and Artwork

Hello World

Most of you will know this work but not many know the story behind this portrait of a lonely soul.

From a time when trees touched the skies and the moon kept a watchful eye over the world; there lived a beast…

Many creatures inhabited this strange world but this was no ordinary creature, it was in the deep forest thousands of years ago where this soul first came to life.  With the force to rip a hole in the earth with one swoop the beast held such strength and power. However for all his might the beast suffered intensely from a great loneliness. Such a feeling swept over the beast like a vast plague, he was hopeless to it.

The only escape he found from such pain was to dream, dream so deeply into the night of love and happiness, something he feared he would never attain. The beast fell into a deep sleep every night…

The Field…

Hello World,

Here’s another chance to the read the story of the field written by my father, that inspired my work 🙂

I walked down to the field
That hides beyond our house

I often take our hedgehog
And sometimes take the mouse

drawings by katie o

There’s tons of unwanted rubbish
That’s home to many rats

An old eccentric lady
Who looks after eight black cats

There’s a retired farmer
His friend a retired pig

A circus owner with a lion
Plus an elephant that’s too big

There is a tiny fish pond
That’s full of sharks and whales

drawings by katie o

Two dromedary camels
Who like to swish their tales

There’s lots of awful insects
And giant dive bomb flies

drawings by katie o

I enjoy the wildlife down the field
But I must stop telling lies

Katie O Art 2014

Hello World!!

2014 has been a busy year already in the world of Katie O! I’m looking forward to getting lots done and enjoying my work 🙂

The main change begins in a few days when I say goodbye to my part-time retail job to become a  full time Artist!!! 😀 It feels amazing! It’s something I dreamt of as a child and now I get to live it!

I spent so much time making and creating stories with pictures alongside them when I was little 🙂 That love of drawing and the passion to create something has never left me, it’s only grown stronger with time.

The main reason I still draw today is the fact that I love it, it’s took some time to get there, I sometimes doubted my ability and myself but never enough to stop.

It began with a spark of interest for painting and drawing when I was 3 or 4 and grew into my complete and utter love for art.  I’ve had great support along the way and now I can’t wait to really live the rest of my life doing something I love everyday.

The story of the Paper Bag

The Paper Bag

Paper Bag 1

I saw a boy in front of me, As I came to the cake shop

He took a dougnut out to eat, And let the bag just drop

Paper bag 2

The paper bag just sat there, And wondered about his life…

Met an empty sweet packet, And asked her to be his wife

paper bag 3

The wedding was held at the local bin,A cardboard box came as a guest

A wrapper and a carton also attended, All dressed up to look their best

paper bag 4

The paper bag and sweet packet, Struggled with conditions in the street

paper bag 5

It had so many dangers,Like pedestrians hefty feet

paper bag 6

Some children came along one day, Collecting bottles, paper and tins

Took the bag and packet away, To fill up recycling bins

paper bag 7

The paper bag chatted to his wife ,And stayed very close beside her

They looked forward to a new life together, As a box of fertiliser

What a difference a picture makes…

Hello world!!

The world of Art is one of great significance…

When everything we know is gone, when civilisations end and centuries have passed, the one main thing that remains and is passed on is Art.

From Ancient tribal drawings and the Egyptian pyramids to the 90’s movement of Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst, they all informed history and reflect the culture of society at the time.

It can be found in the grandest of galleries or the in the most mundane everyday life; Art is what we see in the world and what the artist says it is. Sometimes bringing to light a beauty that may have normally passed us by.

On a more personal level, Art has a dramatic impact on my world and in my life. We all strive for a sense of meaning and importance in our lives, it’s in drawing I feel this purpose coming through. To project an image on to paper from the imagination holds something liberating and exciting.

My work is obviously influenced by my experiences and surroundings however it always reflects surreal situations and imagery. The only constant and familiarity usually is a small girl watching these worlds come to life. Perhaps a metaphor showing how I see the world and how it is manipulated through my eyes and thus my drawings.

Though some will argue Art is losing its place in a struggling economy I feel it will always be something that will maintain and bring value to us. Because sometimes we all need to escape to somewhere else…
